| Ever since you were a child in the meager village of Dropseat, you wanted to become a great Wizard and learn the great mysteries of the universe, such as what happens to that missing sock. The answer turned out to not be very interesting, but by that time you were a Wizard anyway. As luck would have it, as you were passing through the land of Wibbleford, you stopped at the inn in the quiet hamlet of Cowpat, and heard the local barber talking about the ancient dungeon that the town had (perhaps ill-advisedly) been built next to, and the fantastic Amethyst Idol of Blackfist that was purported to be hidden there. Without bothering to ask why nobody had managed to recover it already, you set out on your very first quest. It was pretty easy, but you soon were confounded by a fiendish color-matching puzzle, and by the time you figured out to solve it, you were infuriated as an underfed budgie. You holed up in a small storeroom with a lockable door, and spent several weeks resting until your hitpoints were back to full. Then, keeping a careful eye out for gangsters, you made your way to the lair of Fire Witchlord Frazool and the object of your quest. You thought he nearly had you when he summoned a foul mind flayer to his aid, but you put paid to the beast with your entrenching tool and knocked the villain screaming into a swinging razor-sharp pendulum with a well-placed kick to the eye. At last, the treasure was yours!
